Google’s secret plan to undermine President Trump’s travel ban has just been leaked. According to reports, the Big Tech behemoth conspired to manipulate search results in an effort to rally against Trump’s travel ban. Fox News host and Daily Caller co-founder Tucker Carlson has uncovered internal emails which show Google employees brainstormed ideas for manipulating search results to take on the Trump administration in perhaps the most unethical way possible: By turning their search engine into a propaganda-pushing machine.
Google claims that they never actually acted out their plans to manually engineer search results on specific topics like “Iran” or “Islam,” but their plot to deceive users remains in question. Is Google using their status to influence users and push their political agenda — or perhaps more accurately, would Google actually admit to doing such a thing?
As The Daily Caller reports, Mackenzie Thomas, a Google product marketing manager, sent an email to other Google employees that read: “There is a large brainstorm going on throughout the marketing org,” on January 29, 2017. Thomas went on to suggest ways for Google employees to “actively counter algorithmically biased results,” specifically regarding search results for terms like “Islam,” “Iran,” “Mexico” and “Latino.”
“Bias” in the land of the Left really just means “search results that contradict our preferred narrative.”
Search engine algorithms are mathematical calculations carried out by computers — they are virtually incapable of “bias” as we know it. Further, given that Google’s algorithms are designed by and large by liberals, it’s likely that their tech is already biased to the Left. And they still aren’t liking what they see.
“Shortly after taking office, President Trump issued his now famous travel ban. Almost immediately, Google employees began plotting ways to undermine the president’s executive order,” Carlson stated.
“In other words, Google employees wanted to alter search results to make them more positive, for political reasons. Thomas also suggested promoting links for making donations to organizations fighting the travel ban,” he explained further.
To make matters worse, other employees had no qualms about joining in on Thomas’ plan to manipulate and deceive the public in order to promote their left-wing agenda. A reply from Google product manager Rami Banna read, ““We’re absolutely in, Mackenzie. Anything you need. Will put together a list of orgs with Meryl and H-L team.”
In response to the damning report by Carlson, Google gave the following statement to Fox News:
These emails were just a brainstorm of ideas, none of which were ever implemented. Google has never manipulated its search results or modified any of its products to promote a particular political ideology — not in the current campaign season, not during the 2016 election, and not in the aftermath of President Trump’s executive order on immigration. Our processes and policies would not have allowed for any manipulation of search results to promote political ideologies.
It seems that Google doesn’t see any issue with its employees planning to alter search results to fit their agenda, provided they can still find a way to weasel their way out of taking blame. While Google may say it’s against code to “promote political ideologies,” one might ask if “countering biased algorithms” is within their “policy.” There’s more than one way to cook an egg, after all.
Google’s far-left bias has been exposed repeatedly, especially in recent times. From the firing of James Damore for speaking out about his political values, to the rigging of search results during the 2016 election, to the company’s failure to condemn political violence, there is no shortage of fodder for Google’s dumpster fire.
